of David

A new garment for the songs to God

Music composed by Dimitri Arnauts

About the project

For more than 10 years, I've undertaken the inspiring and fulfilling task to adorn the magnificent Psalms of David with some new music, for liturgical or concert usage.

The settings vary according to the mood and thematic of the psalms, but the music I made is generally written for soloists, choir and orchestra. Their duration varies from 25 to 120 minutes, and their text is in French, Dutch, English or German.

So far, about 35 psalms have been completed, amongst which:

Psalms 23, 24, 33, 51, 66, 80, 98, 113, 123, 126, 137, 150 (dutch - 2004-2012)

For satb soloists, mixed choir and orchestra

Psalms 8, 98, 100, 114, 117, 128, 134, 146, 147 (french - 2004-2012)

For satb soloists, mixed choir and orchestra

Psalms 119, 47 (english - 2013-2015)

For satb soloists, mixed choir and orchestra

Psalm 130 (german - 2014)

For satb soloists, mixed choir , string quartet and piano

Another 60 Psalm settings are in progress...

(Hebrew: דָּוִד, דָּוִיד, Modern David Tiberian Dāwîḏ; ISO 259-3 Dawid; Arabic: داوُود‎ Dāwūd; Syriac: Dawid; Greek: Δαβίδ; Strong's: Daveed) was, according to the Bible, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel and Judah, and according to the New Testament Gospels of Matthew and Luke, an ancestor of Jesus.

He is depicted as a righteous king, although not without faults, as well as an acclaimed warrior, musician, and poet, traditionally credited for composing many of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms.

David is an important figure to members of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic faiths. Biblical tradition maintains the Messiah's direct descent from the line of David.
